White Sox Reinstate Gregory Santos, Option Edgar Navarro
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox are getting their best reliever back in the mix. After a three-day stint on the bereavement list, right-hander Gregory Santos returned to the club Tuesday. To make room for him on the roster, the White Sox optioned righty Edgar Navarro to Triple-A Charlotte.

Santos has two saves, a 2.75 ERA, and 52 strikeouts across 52.1 innings in his first season with the White Sox. With Kendall Graveman traded to the Houston Astros and Liam Hendriks sidelined due to Tommy John surgery, Santos figures to take over the closer role through the end of the season.

Navarro heads back to Triple-A after appearing in two games during his first MLB stint. The 25-year-old allowed two earned runs, five hits, and one walk with five strikeouts across three innings with the White Sox. Down on the farm, Navarro has split minor-league time between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He has a 3.32 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts in 43.1 innings across 35 games.

The White Sox will be back in action Tuesday to continue a three-game series against the New York Yankees. Chicago won Monday's series opener 5-1 despite a whirlwind of drama surrounding the club.
