Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jake Shields is charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly assaulting Mike Jackson during a December encounter.
Shields and Jackson, after months of back-and-forth banter on social media, were involved in a skirmish at the UFC PI last December. Both of them were kicked out of the facility and Jackson opted to press charges against Shields.
According to a report from MMA Fighting, Shields has been charged with misdemeanor battery as a result of the incident. Las Vegas police have now issued a warrant for Shields' arrest.
The bad blood between Shields turned from verbal to physical after a series of heated arguments about race and politics. The situation boiled over when the two were at the UFC PI in December for different reasons.
Jackson will face UFC Hall of Famer Pat Miletich in an MMA fight later this month. He was released by the UFC following a loss to Pete Rodriguez last October.
Shields, a friend and teammate of Nate and Nick Diaz, hasn't commented publically on the arrest warrant. He doesn't have a substantial criminal history.
Shields and Jackson could potentially meet in either a cage or a ring to settle their beef, but their animosity has resulted in Shields facing detainment after their recent physical altercation.
