Two-time Super Bowl champ suddenly announces retirement
San Francisco 49ers former safety Logan Ryan (33) Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers safety Logan Ryan has announced his intention to retire from the NFL at 33.

According to a post on Ryan’s X account, the veteran safety announced his retirement following his 11-year NFL career:

“Thank you to all my family, friends and teammates for the guidance and support!

Thanks to the fans for watching!

Won 2 Super Bowls and got out happy and healthy to be the best father for my children! Thanks again for 11 seasons! Cheers to what’s next.”

The New England Patriots selected Ryan in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. As a member of the Patriots, he won Super Bowls XLIX and LI. He spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ryan joined the 49ers for the 2023 season. He started in two games and recorded 13 tackles and one tackle for loss. Ryan finished his career with 755 tackles, 13 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, and 19 interceptions.

The 49ers are putting together their offseason roster ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. Last week, they added running back Patrick Taylor and tight end Eric Saubert. They will need to add a safety shortly.
