Chris Jericho would be on board with WWE Hall of Famer joining AEW

Chris Jericho would welcome Edge to AEW. Rumors have continued to swirl regarding Edge's future with WWE. The veteran recently released a video stating he had a contract offer from WWE in his inbox. Yet, nothing regarding an extension has been announced.

AEW has become an alternative option for wrestlers who feel like WWE isn't the right option for them. Either their talent isn't being utilized, or they've accomplished everything they set out to do. Either way, the growing brand can provide a new lease of life. Speaking on a recent episode of the "Superstar Crossover" podcast, Jericho discussed why Edge may choose to spend his last few years with AEW.

"You're there for many years, and you've wrestled everybody, and it's great. But it's always good to shock people, and to show up with a new kind of mission," Jericho said. h/t to Fightful for the transcription. So I think somebody like Edge, you know, there's a lot of guys over [in WWE] like this. They've kind of done everything they can do there...That's the best thing about having AEW and about us being as successful as we are, is that there's now a viable alternative, I don't wanna say, competitor, because it's not that, but you can now go to either company."

Edge would provide a huge boost to AEW. The veteran would also help plug the gap left by CM Punk following his release from the company. While AEW is making good progress in terms of television ratings, they're struggling with crowd numbers at live events. Having another true star, who is new to the company will help ease those struggles.

From a creative standpoint, there are enough personalities within AEW that Edge would have his pick of storylines. Of course, the most logical would be a reunion with Christian Cage. There's no guarantee Edge will return to wrestling. Instead, he could opt to retire on his own terms.

However, if the "Rated R Superstar" wants one final hoorah, AEW can provide a fresh new take to give his final chapter some "pop."
