The Tides were the lone winners on the O’s farm, with Bowie and Aberdeen both suffering walkoff losses and Delmarva’s pitchers struggling. The Tides snapped a season-worst three-game losing streak with a comeback win over the Sounds, falling behind 3-0 in the first inning but scoring five unanswered runs the rest of the way.
Ortiz, Mayo and Norby combined for nine hits, a Delmarva pitcher threw five no-hit innings and Bowie and Aberdeen both ran into trouble with rain. Norfolk let an early 5-0 lead slip through its fingers Tuesday, as Nashville scored 10 runs from the fifth inning on to take the win.
John Rhodes tied the game in the seventh and walked it off two innings later. Connor Norby, Kyle Stowers and Daz Cameron all went deep for Norfolk. Norfolk scored all four runs via the long ball.
A couple of pitchers from the 2020 José Iglesias trade helped lead the Tides and Baysox to victories. The three best prospects in the Tides’ lineup — Joey Ortiz (#7 prospect), Connor Norby (#9), and César Prieto (#23 tied) — led the charge for the Norfolk victory.
By the numbers, it’s been a perfectly solid three months for Connor Norby. The 23-year-old second baseman — Baltimore’s second-round selection in the 2021 draft — has churned out a .277 average with nine homers and 46 RBIs while playing nearly every day in his first full season at Triple-A.
